Race Rules

These are a guide only and the full rules as found on the entry form and in the Final Instructions will apply to the race, so be sure to read and understand them. It is the paddlers responsibility to be fully aware of the rules that govern the The Unlimited Dusi Canoe marathon.
  1. Qualifying for Dusi
  1. Join a club
  2. Do your Flat Water Proficiency test with the club Safety Officer
  3. Paddle 3 flat water races or do 3 Club Time trials
  4. Do your River Proficiency test with the club Safety Officer
  5. Complete 6 C or B Class River races before the Dusi

 

OR

  1. Complete a. to d. above and paddle the Dusi in a K2 with a paddler that has completed 10 or more Dusi’s already.

  1. Seeding Rules
  1. The whole race is seeded according to the CSA Ladder which is updated on a weekly bases and can be found at www.canoesa.org.za
  2. However, the first two rows of the Men’s A batch on Day 1 are seeded directly from the results of the following Dusi seeding races only. Ozzie  Gladwin, Midmar Mini, Ibis to Dip Tank, Campbell’s to Dusi Bridge, 50 Miler, and Inanda Dam to Durban.
  3. In this seeding the best single index for each K2 combination entered for the Dusi is used to set the rows.
  4. The Women’s C Batch on Day 1 will contain only all the women’s K2 combinations entered for the Dusi that have achieved an index of 125% or better in at least one of the same seeding races.
  5. This seeding be updated and published on www.kncu.co.za and www.dusi.org.za after each race.

  1. Basic Personal Advertising Rules
  1. Your personal sponsors branding on your boat  is unlimited provided it does not clash with the title sponsors but can only appear on your canoe from the front of the front cockpit back towards the tail of the boat.
  2. On your paddles it is also unlimited but you must leave space for the two Hansa/PowerAde stickers – one on each blade.
  3. On your clothing your personal sponsors branding is unrestricted on your shorts, but on all other clothing, splashies, PFD’s etc it is restricted to 30sqcm only on each article.
  4. Your personal sponsors branding may not appear anywhere if its product conflicts with the race sponsors products. E.g. No Energade and no Windhoek Lager.
  1. Portaging
  1. The 3 Compulsory Portages on Dusi are. 1. Dusi Bridge Weir, 2. Ngumeni Hill and 3. The Inanda Dam Wall
  2. The optional portages are

Day 1) 1. Ernie Pearce Weir,  2. Commercial Road Weir,  3. Mussons Weir, 4.Low Level Bridge, 5. Campbell’s Portage, 6. Hole in the Wall portage, 7. Guinea Fowl Portage, 8. Finger Neck portage and 9. Cabbage tree portage.
Day 2) 1. The Saddles Portages  2.Gum Tree to Ibis Point portage.
Day 3) 1. Burma Road portage   2.The Pump house Weir’s portage.

  1. You may portage only on these portages designated by the organisers. Notwithstanding this you may always get out and carry or drag your canoe around any dangerous or impassable obstructions or rapids in the river so long as this action does not have the effect of shortening the course.
  2. The organisers reserve the right to make any obstacle or section of  river a compulsory portage or alternatively compulsory paddling should they deem it necessary for health and safety reasons or in the best interest of the race .
